Scholarships
Every entry below was verified against the provider's own site (July 2026) and chosen for one reason: you can actually win it at a 2.9 — because it's need-based, essay-based, local, identity-based, or has no GPA bar at all. Deadlines recur annually; always re-confirm on the linked site before planning around a date.
Play where GPA isn't the scoreboard
Essay contests, need-based funds, local awards, and identity-based awards judge story, service, and need — not transcripts. Your story (Syrian-heritage Muslim student in Cincinnati working toward medicine to serve his community) is a genuinely strong essay engine. Write one master 650-word essay, adapt it per prompt.
Local beats national
The Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation's single application feeds 140+ local funds with no hard GPA floor and an applicant pool measured in dozens, not tens of thousands. Small local awards are the best expected value on this page.
The FAFSA is the highest-paying "scholarship"
Pell (up to $7,395) + Ohio College Opportunity Grant (up to $4,000/yr, file by Oct 1) + UC need grants require zero essays and zero GPA. File every October, early.
Each 0.1 of GPA is worth real dollars
At 3.0, ISNA's Muslim-community awards unlock. At 3.3, the NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program unlocks — up to $20,000/yr plus paid research. Frame semester goals that way.

Don't waste applications on these (verified)
Commonly recommended to Muslim/Arab pre-meds — and verified not to fit. Skipping them saves you hours:
| Award | Why not (verified on their own site) |
|---|---|
| Islamic Scholarship Fund | Requires 3.0 + junior/senior standing + supports only law/policy/media majors — their FAQ explicitly excludes health & science majors. |
| ISNA Shakir Scholarship | Entering-freshman award — you're past the window. Flag it for younger siblings. |
| MYLA Awards | Minnesota institutions only. |
| CAAP Alousi STEM / Ismat's | Muslim women only. |
| ADC Shaheen / AAI Al Muamman | Media & journalism majors only. |
| Goldwater · AED · Tylenol | GPA/standing gates (3.7+ / 3.2 / graduate-level). Revisit Goldwater only if the comeback goes ballistic. |

Scam rules (non-negotiable)
- Never pay to apply, "process," or "unlock" a scholarship. Fees = scam.
- Never give bank details, credit card, or full SSN to a scholarship site (studentaid.gov/FAFSA is the only SSN exception).
- "You've been selected for a scholarship you never applied to" = scam.
- "Guaranteed to win" / "everyone qualifies" = scam.
- Legit providers have a verifiable nonprofit identity, real address, and findable past winners.
- Report scams: reportfraud.ftc.gov
More platforms — status-checked July 2026
Additions to the list above, each verified alive (or honestly marked dead) so you never waste an evening on a ghost site.
Also alive & worth using
- Peterson's Scholarship Search — big general database (1.5M+ listings), decent filters
- Unigo directory — large directory beyond its own $10K award
- MoolahSPOT — small directory + its own $1,000 essay award
- Scholarships.com — Muslim directory page — the curated Islam/Muslim list inside a platform you're already on

- Ohio Dept. of Higher Education — the official home of OCOG + Choose Ohio First (navigate from the homepage; deep links move around)
Dead, absorbed, or skip
- Chegg Scholarships — ❌ dead. The scholarship site no longer exists at all; only advice articles remain on chegg.com.
- Scholly — absorbed into Sallie's tool (already on your list). Caution: its founder sued Sallie in April 2026 alleging sale of user data — one more reason for the dedicated-email rule.
- College Greenlight — folded into Appily (already on your list); nothing separate to sign up for.
- RaiseMe / Encourage — alive but built for high-schoolers; near-zero value for a current UC student.
- ScholarshipPoints — sweepstakes-style points model without a real award database; use last, if at all.
The deadline rhythm
Dec–Jan: Unigo, Live Más · Feb: UC A&S (~Feb 28) · Mar: CAAP winter cycle, UC General App opens (Mar 15) · Apr–May: Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation (Apr 30), B. Davis (~May 21), ISNA (~May 30) · Oct 1: FAFSA for OCOG · Always: 30 minutes weekly on the rolling no-GPA feeds.
Track every application in the Opportunity Tracker — add the deadline the day you find the award, not the week it's due.
